Sierra Leone, 1990-2002
The brutal and chaotic civil war in Sierra Leone was practically "imported" from Liberia. Contrary to the much better-known war in the neighbouring country, however, it saw quite some use of air power.

Algerian War, 1954 - 1962
The Algerian War proved to something of a watershed in the cycle of European colonial politics: it was the first conflict of the modern times involving a major European power in Africa. It also set the pattern for similar developments elsewhere on that contingent. Specific aspects of this war were extremely interesting. For example, although the Americans used helicopters during the Korean War in quite some numbers, it was the French who actually pioneered their large-scale employment as combat vehicles during the war in Algeria: the French demonstrated the helicopter as a formidable weapon of war. Despite this and all other military successes they achived, however, all French efforts were doomed to fail.
